dance
“I can’t, I have dance!”
I started dancing at the age of 5 and it quickly consumed my life. I was obsessed with the creativity, the athleticism, and the never-ending drive to perfection. At my peak, I was training over 20 hours a week, with everything else in my life revolving around dance. My specialty domains spanned the genres of tap, lyrical, jazz, contemporary, and ballet. It was my escape, therapy, and chosen form of self-expression.
Dance not only instilled deep values of hard work and discipline but most importantly, the beauty in art. I grew up constantly inspired by others and their abilities to emotionally move an audience. That feeling is still one of the root purposes in my life today.
In my last year of university, I was chosen to be captain of my Varsity Dance Team, which was the most fulfilling experience of my life. I tried to implement every tidbit of knowledge I savoured from all the amazing teachers, leaders, and choreographers I had over my 17 years of experience. Our team ended up placing 1st at every competition in the season, the first time by any team in Canadian history (they are still the undefeated champs today!). I will always be grateful for everything dance taught me and how it continues to inspire me in my everyday life.
Below, are some of my favourite pieces of choreography and performances over the years.
